Here we go, I love to paint nurseries and children’s rooms almost as much as I like painting flowers. This room belongs to three year old Will. Will’s father grew up loving Curious George so we did a take-off of that. We also decided to add the family’s two bulldogs, Boogsie and Aphrodite.
On the wall around the corner from Boogsie and Aphrodite Will’s father had been marking, with black marker, Will’s height over the last three years. Mom wasn’t real crazy about the black marks and writing on the wall and she wanted to know if I could paint something and remark the height levels. This was a great idea but instead of painting out the markings I used translucent paints allowing the writing to show through. How very special to have your dad’s writing on your wall as you grow up. It’s so nice when everyone is happy.
A few months after finishing this room I received an email from the family telling of Boogsie’s passing. They wanted me to know how grateful they were that I had painted Boogsie in Wil’s room.
Since then I have designed a card with Boogsie and Aphodite.
