My first stenciling project turned out to be my most challenging. Designing and cutting the stencils took as much time as the actual painting. The challenge was to match the soffit area to an oriental rug in the kitchen.
The registered stencils were five feet long and a series of seven for the center section with another set for the top and bottom sections.
After cutting the stencils the next step was to tape off the soffit with two inches at the top and two inches at the bottom leaving eight inches in the center. The center section was base coated a soft coral color to coordinate to the rug. Two deeper colors of coral and a fan brush were needed to striate the center section. The upper and lower area were shadowed with a neutral brown at the edges. Normally when I stencil I would start in the center of the area to be painted but this design was so intricate that I decided to wrap the corners. Here are a couple of pictures of this project.
