My Favorite Color of Paint!

These are paintings created since my last newsletter . . .

“Autumn Moon”  °  24″ x 18″  °  Acrylic on Canvas
What made this painting interesting?
It was created with only 3 colors, Black, White, Quinacridone Gold.

These four pieces, two Diptychs, were painted with acrylic on DaVinci Pro Panels
6″ x 6″ x .75″ each

A Diptych is two panels when hung together create one art piece.

“The Wild Side of Grief”  °  48″ x 36″ x 1.5″  °  Acrylic on Canvas

This painting represents a poignant moment in a journey through emotion and memory, loss and healing. Like a dream you are afraid to wake up from for fear that it really happened. Creativity may not be a cure-all for working through the grieving process however, it is a more gentle path than most of us allow ourselves to take.

Creating allows me space for my mind to rest and focus on the love I feel for life and those in it, here and right now. Step into my serene world of floral elegance where wildflowers emerge gracefully from a misty fog. The airy arrangement is accentuated by wispy branches that seem to sway gently overhead.

The composition holds a symphony of hues – pale yellow, blue, pink, and white – each bloom supported by graceful, slender stems. My intent with “The Wild Side of Grief” is to portray wildflowers as a symbol of life’s intricate beauty amidst hardship. The process became a meditation on the elegance and resilience of nature, mirrored in the subtle tones and gentle brushstrokes that form the tranquil atmosphere of the painting. I hope that when you view this piece, it offers a moment of reflection and connection, allowing you to see the wild beauty that can lie at the heart of grief.

This winter was “oh so joyful”. At Christmas time our family took a trip to the mountains of Tennessee. It was beautiful driving through the small towns and up into the mountains. We were all hoping that little Evelyn Elise might see her first snowfall. Of course the grandsons were hoping to make a few snowballs. Although Christmas was full of good times and lots of laughter, the snow eluded us . . . but Evie had a big surprise coming.

Soon after returning to Georgia a snow storm dropped six inches of snow overnight, smack-dab in Evie’s yard. You must understand, snow is a rarity in this part of Georgia. Evie’s Mommy awakened early that morning. Daddy had already gone to work, Mommy woke Evie early so she could see the wonderful gift of nature outside her window. I’m not sure who was more excited about the snow, Mommy or Evie.

Gazing out the window, snowflakes floated on-air. They were spinning around and around until they settled on the grass. Evie asked excitedly, “Can I go lay in it!?!” She and Mommy bundled up and out they went. Evie was fascinated by the fluffy snow and Mommy explained how to make her first Snow-Angel.

Early the next morning, snow crunching under their feet, Evie led Daddy and Mommy to the front yard to make snowmen. Evie’s first snow turned out to be quite an adventure. These memories will last a lifetime.

May you take time each day to slow down and pay
close attention to the beauty around you.

Wishing you beauty everywhere you look,

The Wild Side of Grief is my favorite! Been through enough grief in the last 5 years to last 2 lifetimes and this piece really is comforting

Hi Kay, sorry to hear of the hardships you’ve been going through. You are young to have gone through so much. I hope you’ve found something that brings you pleasure to focus on.

It’s encouraging when someone finds comfort in my work. Thank you for your wonderful comment.

Wishing you comfort and joy, Mickey

This was a special newsletter. Your heart is returning to the canvas. “The Wild Side of Grief” is beautiful.
Loved the pictures of Evie. She has really grown since the last photo.
    All is ok here.
    Thanks for the “beauty”.
    Love,
    Julie

Hi Julie!I loved your comment about “my heart returning to the canvas”. It’s not like I have a choice, really. I learned when I was 24 that if I don’t paint depression grabs hold of me and doesn’t want to let go. It was a blessing in disguise. Speaking of blessings . . .
That little great granddaughter, Evie, is a huge blessing. I just love her to pieces.

I’m happy things are going well for you. Sure miss you

    Love you bunches! Mickey

Mickey, you are so special to me, your paintings have continued to be so beautiful and amazing since the first evening we met and I have gotten to see all your work through the internet.
Just a side note. My wife and I are moving to Bentonville Arkansa next month to enjoy living near my son while waiting for their first child to be born. It is great to be blessed with Grandchildren.

Hi Chuck, thanks for such a nice comment! I’m thinking that first hello may have been 25+ years ago, how time flies. Sounds like you are heading to warmer clients. I’m sure you will have no regrets moving closer to your grandchildren. They are very much a Blessing! I’ve heard Arkansa is beautiful. Friends recently relocated to their home state of Ohio from Arkansa. They loved Arkansa. Good luck with your move!

All the best to you and your family. Keep in touch!

    Dear Mickey,

Well, we did it, again. I was thinking about you last week and here you are!!!

As always, your pictures are such a reflection of life as you see it and with the hope that others react in the same way. These calm the soul.

The one entitled Wildflower reminds me of a song that has been on my heart and in my mind since 1972, even today I remember the words and music.
This was written in 1972 by a Canadian group called Skylark.

Your Granddaughter, Evie, is precious. You got to see her first snow angel!

I appreciate and understand your “favorite color.” Since I was unable to have a family, I miss that special love that makes a difference in my life. I always wanted a son, but God had other plans.

Stay safe and keep on doing God’s work as HE guides your eyes and hands.

    Thanks, for keeping in touch.
    Your friend,
    Susie

Hi Susie, thanks so much for writing your heart warming and caring comment. I did listen to the song, Wildflower. I remembered most of the words, too. I didn’t remember who sang it.

Evie is quite the little character. I just love her dearly and she will have a little brother in June, or before.

I always look forward to hearing from you, Mickey

    Hi Mickey,
They’re beautiful Mickey! The autumn moon is stunning.
Are you settled in to Georgia nicely?
I moved to Idaho last summer – both my daughters are here in Boise and I felt like as I get older I need to be close to them. I do really like Boise. It is a bit of an adjustment though to up and leave all your friends behind. What did you do to settle in and make your way in a new state?

Hi Desi, So great to hear from you! Thanks for the lovely comment!

It is really touch leaving friends after, in my case, thirty years. But it certainly is manageable. I’ll reply on the email you sent. All the best Desi, always.
