Want to perk up your laundry day?
Why not a fun mural in your laundry room. After painting murals in two rooms for my client she asked if I would give her some ideas for her laundry room. She liked the idea of a clothesline with a variety of children’s items that had special meaning for her along with things that brought a smile to her face.
It came to mind how my sons never liked their stuffed toys to be washed. Then I got to thinking about how discussed the stuffed animals might have felt when being hung by one ear, hence, the scowl on the stuffed Teddy Bear’s face. There were socks, wash clothes in various colors, a baby bib that said “Grandparents are God’s Gift to Children”, a towel with Raggedy Ann, a multicolored patched bunny and puffy little blue birds.
My client mentioned that her family had just returned from a fun-filled vacation to Disney World so I wanted to surprise her with a special memento of their trip. After she left I asked the housekeeper if she had seen anything with a Disney World logo. She loved the idea and said she had seen a room card with the logo. It seemed totally appropriate to put the logo on a t-shirt along with the year of their special vacation. Each time she enters the laundry room she is reminded of very special memories.
The video to the right of this column is one of the murals I painted in the foyer of this client’s home. The video is a day-by-day progress of her mural. The floral mural was six feet tall and took eight days to complete.
Here is a link to another laundry room I painted, very different from this one. These are cabinet doors above the washer and dryer.
Have you thought of a fun way to incorporate mementos into your decor? I would love to hear about them if you don’t mind sharing.
